Redback Surf & Snow has been designing, making and printing clothing, headwear and surfwear since 1987. It all began when Redback founder Mark Fraser helped introduce snowboarding to Australia way back in the late 80s.
Along with a handful of others, he helped promote the sport, and began instructing at both Perisher Valley and Thredbo in NSW.
Redback Surf & Snow became the first Australian snowboarding clothing label, and was also first to license out the original clothing rights for Burton and Avalanche snowboards.
As the label grew, a number of retail outlets were opened around NSW, including Manly, Mosman, Perisher and Jindabyne. The Redback range grew from a few basic T-shirts, caps and crudely cut board shorts, spreading into street and surf wear, and exporting to Japan, The UK, Europe and New Zealand.
As the Redback logo became more popular, the custom clothing side of the business expanded, seeing promotional and staff clothing produced for hundreds of individual and corporate organisations, including AAPT, Rip Curl, Ski Co. Nidecker Snowboards, Realsurf.com, Charlotte Pass Chalet, Perisher Freestyle Team, to name a few.
A restructure saw the label re-vamped in 2001, with a retail outlet and showroom opening the following year at Collaroy on Sydney's northern beaches. Summer 2003/2004 marked a new range of Redback skateboards, boardshorts, surfwear, walkshorts, dress shirts, girls wear, kids gear and denims, along with spiff new cotton Shirts and Tees.
2001 also saw the launch of our music arm redbackrock. Click the link below for more info...
Winter 2004 saw the debut release of Redback Snowboards.
